Women of Character

Hello again :) It's been over a month since I've blogged with all the work I've been doing for school. But I'm not gonna let 12.12.12 pass without an entry! (haha parang high school journal entry lang eh)

Anywaaays, I spent this day back at my high school alma matter. Today was the beginning of a series of talks on college and career for the juniors and seniors. Together with Inha Arceo, we talked about our current colleges now - admissions, academics, university culture, college adjustment, and the like. I go to the green school and she goes to the blue school. Oooh! Imagine how fun that was (in a good way of course). It was also great to see Inha again and to see that our dynamic duo was back in action after two years! (She was the President while I was the Vice-President of our student council back in our senior year).

I went first. The presentation covered the questions of the students that their guidance counselor emailed me two months before. They can be compacted into 5 major topics - academics, co-curricular activities, fun, concerns, and admissions.

I won't go through all of them here now, it's gonna take about 45 minutes to explain the whole thing. But that's the gist of it.

I was really glad that the juniors and seniors were active in the presentation. In this next photo, we were demonstrating how to cross the street in Taft - one of the busiest streets! I told them how in the small street of Zapote (the one between Alabang Town Center and Mt. Mcdo, I almost got hit by a car twice) but in college, I got much better in crossing. I gave them a tip (not so demonstrated in the photo below) but it'll be our little secret for our safety. Hehe!

This next photo shows Kori who was demonstrating her medical jargon speaking skills by reading the good results of my X-ray test from the annual physical examination. Pollution isn't a problem. :)

All the light topics aside, we covered topics from shifting, to what are important in admissions, to blockmates, to professors (I have a one who looks like Barack Obama!), to grading systems, parking, school organizations, flooding, to opportunities like the organizations, competitions, and of course the Google Student Ambassador program. So I gave a couple of Google stuff out.

We also talked about alumnae from our school having a lot of achievements in college like one who used to be the captain of the intramurals' green team and is now the current captain of the DLSU women's soccer team! Plus two of my batchmates who are in the soccer team as well.

Inha talked after and she gave this great overview of her school which I can't forget she kept on calling The Ateneo. She began by asking trivia questions and gave away Hershey's chocolate bars which the students in the room were eager to win! Mmm :)

She talked about the different organizations, student government (I didn't know they were also USG), the different buildings, passing the ACET, etc. I know understand what JSEC is. My friends mention this place a lot. Apparently, it's a place where students get to sell food in their own stalls. Pretty cool! And there are students from our high school alma matter who have stalls here! I won't forget the Dishneyland stall! Catchy and witty!

Basically, we both covered the same topics since we were given an overview of what to talk about. What's great about it is that I saw so many similarities between the green and blue school but they are also differences that make them amazing in their own ways!

After that we had twenty minutes for Q&A!!

We answered questions such as courses like what if what your parents want isn't what your heart wants, shifting, making friends wherein Inha and I made a random making a new friend conversation, and dress codes.

The previous picture is Ms. Calsado, their Guidance Counselor, who invited us to be the speakers. I still remember two/ three years back when it was us listening to the alumnae.

After the talk, the school served merienda of sandwiches and iced tea for everyone! :) Yuuum!

Inha and I went to the high school building to look around and say hi to former teachers! The corridors look a lot bigger now :O It was also great bumping into old staff who remember us :) It still feels like home.

Thanks to the juniors and seniors for listening! We hope you enjoyed and remembered our tips! Haha! We hope you get into your dream school whichever that may be, get into your dream course, and for all the successes in all your endeavors! :) Also, we hope you stay women of character and women of strength no matter wherever you guys go in life! Hihihi! If you guys have any more questions no matter how serious or random, you can always inbox Inha and I on FB, tweet us, or comment under this entry. We'd be glad to answer them for you!! :)

All the best with admissions results in a few weeks, seniors!!
